“I don't think that I can do it, Diane. I simply don't know how to flirt.” She said with disappointment.
“Don’t know how to do what part?” I asked.
With frustration she responded, “Any of it. All of it. I don't know how to flirt. I don't know what to say. I don't know how to date. I don’t know how to create a new relationship.”
Lauren, a new coaching client, a successful business woman, who was divorced a number of years back, was telling me about her desire to get into a new relationship.
I have heard this same sentiment regarding achieving goals with every single one
of my coaching clients. Everyone of them. Everyone.
They wanted to make more money but didn't know how to get it.
They wanted a new job but didn't know how to get it.
They wanted more confidence but didn’t know how to get it.
They wanted less stress… to be a stronger leader.. to get unstuck and feel free... to be able set boundaries... be good at public speaking… ask for what they want… grow their business… a promotion… increased sales… the list goes on and on and on.
It can be very challenging, confusing and down right annoying to be a smart successful woman who has had numerous achievements, but are blocked or stopped with their current goals.
So I asked Lauren, the question that I have asked everyone of my coaching clients who doubted their ability to accomplish their current goals, “When was the last time that you were absolutely dedicated and committed to learning something new and
you failed to learn that thing?”
As usual with my clients, and Lauren was not the exception, there was a long pause
as she tried to find the answer.
To put my smart clients out of their misery as they search for the correct answer,
I interject, “The answer is never, Lauren. Never.”
And then I repeat the answer in a way which gives them complete clarity,
“There has never been anything - that you were absolutely dedicated -
and committed to learning - that you did not learn. Never.”
Once this truth settles, Lauren exclaimed, “You are right! I have always learned anything that I was committed to learning!”
Then we laughed together, because all of a sudden the goal, the relationship, that she wanted to achieve, the goal that felt so far away, just became a possibility.
Lauren can learn anything. And I am an expert at teaching women how to have the confidence, courage and clarity to get what they want. Achieving her goal is just around the corner.
You are not different from Lauren. Or for that matter, any of my other coachin clients.
You can achieve the results you want in your life and business. Period.
What do you want that you think you can’t have?
What do you want that you are having a hard time accomplishing?
What are you willing to learn?
What are you willing to be taught?
When was the last time that you were absolutely dedicated and committed to learning something new and you failed to learn that thing?
Yes, I am asking you. Yes, you.
(long silent pause)
Okay, that was your long pause to try and find the answer.
Here is me putting you out of your misery, “The answer is never. Never.”
Now it is your turn to exclaim, “You are right! I have always learned anything that
I was committed to learning!”
And this is when we laugh together, because all of a sudden the goals that felt so far away, just became a possibility.
You can learn anything, and I am an expert at teaching women how to have the confidence, courage and clarity to get what they want; I am an expert at teaching
you how to accomplish your goals.
Your goal is just around the corner. Are you ready to learn?
